Starting the season

Hey gardeners… the season is upon us.

Having somehow escaped (in climate change terms rather scarily) a full Chicago winter, the soil in the plots is soft and not remotely frozen (this may change at anytime, of course) and ready for prep work.

As you may know, Hal Cohen, our leader and guide for over a decade has left for the arid climbs of Southern California (although he will be back in June to check up on us) so we have taken it upon us (that is me, Dorothy, Shirley, Mark and Johanna) to try and keep the show on the hill.

We will be calling for subs, work days, help with this and that and a whole lot more but first things first, if you haven’t started yet, you need to prepared your plot.

Dorothy, our plant and gardening specialist has put together this ‘start to the season’ piece and then, if you’re interested, and you should be, there’s Hal’s tips on how to preserve water and irrigate your plot with the core gardening technique here.

We’ll be emailing everyone in the next few days, with a form to fill in, money to pay and other info. In the meantime there is some compost and mulch on the hill by the rail tracks on the southern end and tools in the ‘new’ shed.

Happy gardening.
